Hi. I am looking to switch my dual fuel plan on Eon Save Online 10, as I feel I am paying a lot for my G+E. I am paying £155 per month, £84.58 gas and £68.09 on electricity. I am father to 3 children, and I believe the price plan Eons 'cheapest' apparently is too expensive for me. Is this an OK amount to be paying towards heating a 3 bedroomed semi house, or should I look elsewhere? If so, does anyone have any recommended sites for me to visit? Thanks.

It depends on your boiler and all your insulation/control of heating/hot water.
We pay £118 pm for gas & elec for a 5 bed detached with Eon but our hot water/heating timer is very well controlled.
You're unlikely to get it much cheaper but you could save by reducing usage. In the last 10 years our gas use has gone down by 33% due to more control over the boiler times and insulation. It was over 30,000 kwh pa now down to 20,000.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
The only real way of doing this is to closely monitor your own Gas and Electricity usage by taking meter readings and finding out in the real world what your usage is.
Currently, we are reaching the shortest day in December and the nights have really drawn in, so this time of year should be around the time when your 'peak' electricity usage would be applicable. Its still quite mild at the moment though so unless your GCH is already working flat out, then when taking the readings i'd allow more overhead for when it really does get cold, and your usage will increase as the heating works harder.
Either way, take actual readings, if it is close to what you are actually paying then the DD estimate is probably reasonably accurate and there is less chance of you falling behind and being faced with a huge bill when they read your meter and play catch up.
If your usage is well under what you are paying, even allowing for more gas usage when its snowing and freezing, then you probably have a good case for persuing it. However the worst thing you can do is to fall into the trap of lowering your DD because xmas is coming etc etc and running up a debt with the energy company which will eventually have to be paid."Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0
