  • I've never seen such scary agreement on MSE. Is it catching?
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

  • NO!! i TRIED TO HELP MY BOYFRIEND BY PAYING MONEY IN TO HIS BANK ACCOUNT TO CUT DOWN HIS £1500 OVERDRAFT I GOT IT DOWN TWICE TO £300! WE ARE STILL TOGETHER BUT ITS TRUE THAT IF YOU TRY TO HEP OUT SOMONE FINANCIALLY THEY BECOME WORSE HE AND ONLY HE CAN LEARN BY HIMSELF TO LOOK AFTER HIS BILLS!! IF YOU DO THIS HE WILL RUN UP EVEN MORE CREDIT CARDS!! YOU ARE HELPING HIM MOST BY LETTING HIM DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM HIMSELF AND JUST LETTING HIM TALK ABOUT IT BUT DONT GET INVOLVED!
  • WOW thanks for so many (unanimous) responses!
I can definitely see that it might be a risk to me financially and us emotionally, so your kind advice is heeded and I won't suggest the idea to my boyfriend. To be fair to him, he is making a real effort to tackle the debt himself, and my idea was not to pay it for him but to take out a credit card in my name so that he could keep repaying and benefit from the 0% interest. I don't think he would allow me to pay it for him...I have more than enough savings to be able to pay it all off in one go if I chose to (but don't worry, I won't!)
Some of you have pointed out that there are no quick fixes for this sort of thing, and it's true that I am a bit impatient for us to make real inroads into saving for a house deposit. I look at what I've got so far and can't help thinking if he was saving too, we could be putting double away each month...but good things come to those who wait eh!
Thanks everyone for your feedback, it's much appreciated x
