What exactly is a packed bitstream file, this question does come up often so I am intreagued? I know it probably has to do with how the file is encoded into Divx format.0 -
It is based on the same chipset as other Umax (/Yamada) DivX players so you can upgrade the firmware to get it to play PBS files although with experience they still cause problems when fast forwarding / rewinding so I tend to use MPEG Modifier to unpack the files beforehand as a matter of course anyway.
cp
and to answer the other question - Packed bit stream causes almost 0 extra compression but takes more processing to decode and therefore causes problems for standalone players not endowed with an expensive CPU. It is typically a default option though on most encoders so most files tend to have it by default, not a problem for playing back on a computer but can be for a standalone player.0 -
i was pondering a dvd player much similar to these, i needed it to play divx's and all the other variety of media formats... eventually got an xbox (not 360) and had it softmodded and now running xbmc and I have to say is much more superior to any of these devices.
Would recommend if anyone like me is considering one of these dvd players but wants it to play everything and more. It cost me £50 for the xbox with the remote and splinter cell original (needed for softmodding) from Game, plus £5 for the xploder memory card from currys clearance. And £10 for the xbox hd av cable from ebay so I can connect the xbox to my projector so I can play some hd xvids at 480p.ummm...0
