Hi all, thought I'd pick your wonderful moneysaving brains.
My daughter is having her school prom this year and I really want to make it something special. Shes been on the prom committee and has worked really hard in getting everything set up for the event.
Lots of the girls have been talking and some of them are spending wayyyyy to much just on the dress alone (her best friend £285!!!!! )
They're hiring cars, having their hair/makeup/nails done, tiaras, professional photography at their home, flowers the full works.
Shes just such a lovely girl (I know shes mine
) and hasnt asked for any of these but I Know she'd love it if I could make it somehow special. Shes busy selling everything she owns (which isn't a great deal) to pay for her dress.
Her friends came back last night and wish to hire a limo between them  so it will only be split four ways.....any other cheaper/different ideas that I could get them to change to?
I really want to make it really really special and perhaps a little different? but on the cheap
I know I've come to the best place for ideas and I'm sure theres going to be lots of others in the same position as myself.
Can anyone help??

You could do her hair/make up/nails for her. Make it special with some lovely pampering stuff, pretend the bathroom/bedroom is a salon, etc. The Boots thread on Grabbit has details of some great offers at Boots.Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0

i second the tk maxx suggestion; get a good quality basic dress which you can the jazz up witht he jewellery, the accessories etc. or if you can affford that bit extra, try monsoon, per una at marks at sparks, or the bridal section at debenhams.
re the limo - ours was shared between several of us (10 or 12, cant remember) so we paid about £10 each. do you know someone with a nice/posh car who could chauffeur them instead?
photos - many proms have a professional photographer there. take lots of snaps at home, this will be fine so long as you put a bit of effort into staging the photo (ie, you dont want normal everyday clutter visible in the background!). a lot of us had our taken in the garden or a local park, to make the scenery a bit more special.
do you know someone who can help do her hair/make up/nails for her? perhaps the group could get together and help each other get ready if you have the space to accomodate several giggly, excited teenagers
the american tradition of a corsage (a flower worn on the wrist) is being increasingly popular - ebay is a godsend for stuff like this
a last minute panic is often the lack of tan/funny strap marks from last years tan. you might want to get that body lotion which builds up a gradual, natural tan rather than risk being blotchy/streaky/orange  on the big dayknow thyselfNid wy'n gofyn bywyd moethus...0 -
What about ebay for her dress.
This seller has some lovely ones, all for £30, and i think £8 P&P.
Check this one out, then see her *other items for sale*

A little premature for your 7 year old pot o gold lol
My daughters after a soft gold in a floating shape rather than bellowing out kind(if you know what I mean lol)0 -
how much will the limo be? everyone does a limo...would be good to be different!
what about hiring a sports car or a classic car? the kind you see for weddings. would it be cheaper. I would phone round a few wedding car type places and ask for a price for a one off journey. bet they'd be pleased to do an evening job.x x x0 -

Make sure you take lots of photo's - getting ready, proper staged ones with her friends etc, and make sure she has a disposable camera to take her own at the "do". Then make her a special albumn afterwards.0

What about taking her to Debenhams/Boots/House of Fraser (somewhere like that) where the various make-up counters can do a free makeover?? When i got married i went to the Estee Lauder counter and got all my make-up done for free. What the Deuce?0
