Identy theft

Hi

we were broken into last night, and apart from computers etc, they took my bag which had in it a visa application for canada, photocopy of my passport info page, and passport sized photos of me.

How can i stop/find out if someone has created a credit card, loan etc in my name, and how likely is it that they would do this.

are they websites or goverment pages on the subject to help me find out more thanks

you may find the CIFAS site interesting but remember if you do register your own legitimate credit applications will be looked at in more detail than usual.

Sorry to learn of your misfortune, and you're wise to consider deterrents.

Simple - your application is approved in real time (subject to the following).

You are sent a paper application form to sign & PRINT, once received by the lender then the application process proceeds as normal.

The only drawback is that on-line applications and possibly applications in store for instant credit may take a little longer. A small price to pay for added security. (Actually instant credit granted in store should actually be smoother, quicker and safer).
