No HoneyAndLemon I have not closed it yet, the letter has not been posted. I am afraid when you get on in life, things are harder to understand. We were brought up in an age where credit cards did not exist and you do not pick things up so quickly as when you were younger. I looked upon them as TWO separate bills, not connected in anyway. It is a shame that the bank did not help us as they said they do not deal with credit card enquiries. They let us use the phone at the bank to talk to the credit card department. We had been in to have our cards authorized to use abroad and it is a shame they did not help us out then as we had asked about using a credit card or a debit card when we were on holiday. The information we needed has been supplied on this forum and now we understand where we went wrong. We thought we were being charged interest on each transaction and not the interest being carried forward from the cash advance. We had needed the extra cash as I had an accident whilst away and we had to pay for medical items from the local pharmacy, otherwise we would not have had any use for the cards. But a lesson learned and we thank all of you for the advice and help received on this forum,it is appreciated.Kind regards.0

IF you could turn back the clock and IF the pharmacy accepts credit cards for purchases, you'd have been better simply to buy the medicines on the card in store, rather than withdrawing cash from a bank or ATM.
Worth knowing for next time.
As for bank branches, they are usually good for selling you a credit card but servicing is nearly always something for a call centre these days. The call centre should have been able to articulate that the cash advance a couple of months earlier was the source of the problem.
Thanks for posting back. Too many people post a question, get an explanation that highlights a misunderstanding and then never confirm the accuracy of those answers.0 -
I am afraid this is only a small Greek Island and there is a limited use of credit cards. Taxi fares etc soon add up and it caused real problems not being mobile. I found Greece to be quite expensive and the Euros soon fly out of the wallet !!!!
I have to agree about the bank helping us take out the cards but when it came to to the payment query,it was not so easy.
But as you say a lesson learned and you are never too old to learn.!!!0
