Looking for a veg chopper that will save me having to lug out big old food processor that does not seem to do job.
Like cooking lots of veg, and try to do bulk cooks for freezer, preparation is so tedious any ideas?

Having had many gadgets, I mostly use a very large, very sharp knife..... you can become very quick with practice.
I also use a mandoline. Only a cheap (£10?) plastic on from the supermarket but it is very good and much easier to clean and store than all the complicated fancy gadgets....
I eat tons of veg and salad so knife is used several times a day and mandoline several times a week. Both live in the drawer.0 -
I have one of these

My mother bought one off the shopping channels, found it completely invaluable then bought me one from a car boot sale for £1 (brand new unopened too!), it's absolutely brilliant!!
You can get cheaper versions on Ebay or Lakeland or even somewhere like Poundstretcher or Matalan sells them if I remember rightly.
Truly brilliant, saves me a lot of time and hassle, and makes sure everything's cut to the same size.0 -
Have one of the v slicers but find it really tricky to use. seems to have big lumps left at end and dont seem to be able to get it to grip the food properly.Jan Grocery challenge

Those V slicers scare the pants off me:eek: I've been 'gifted' two in my time and have managed to offloaded them to people I don't like very much and don't mind hearing have lost all their fingers in a coleslaw shredding frenzy:rotfl: A good stron wooden chopping board and a good set of knives would be my vote.Life's a beach! I agree with MATH. gadgets always get lost in my untidy kitchen - or at least the tiny little part of them that is indispensable, and they are mostly a pain to wash up and store. I would spend slightly more money than you feel you can afford on a decent knife (I have a Global one which I bought one day when v angry with OH, so I imagined doing all sorts of wicked things with it, which of course I never did) AND a proper sharpening device (I have a Chantry - v good), and sharpen it before each use. Much easier to use, store and wash up. Sorry if you are finding the idea of a gadget irresistable !!0

I had a cheap slicer from Makro ages ago and it was brilliant until I broke it and couldn't get a replacement. I then bought a JTL direct one for about £10the blades don't cut well which makes it not safe, and is a pile of pants IMHO. My husband bought me a £35 stainless steel one as a replacement and it is brilliant - they sometimes have them on Amazon.
Advantages over my nice knives - it cuts thinly and evenly, sadly I am just rubbish at consistant cutting.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0
