That's the problem. It is an ethical nightmare, but the alternative is to take children into care who otherwise wouldn't need to go. I don't know what the answer is and there probably isn't a catch-all one.
Going back to the whole safety net, I'll give you another example. Libraries, when it's snowing badly, close early. We have to discharge homeless people onto the street. They come to libraries because they are places that they can stay warm. I've been told by Shelter, that you can suggest to homeless people when it is cold to go to A&E and sit there, or report to your local police station, so that they are being moved onto another warm place of shelter. So what will happen now? The A&E at my local hospital has closed and my police station announced yesterday that it will no longer be open after 6pm and will open 5 days a week. Last year I was very saddened when one of my "regulars" literally froze to death. How many more people will we lose this year? Or is it the case, as the somewhat unpleasant and now deleted post stated, that these people don't matter?
Anyhow, on the subject of Learning Difficulties, one thing that would help a lot would be a bank of volunteer advocates, to help people filling out forms and articulating the needs of those with LD.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I saw this on Channel 4 as well last night. It's just so tragic.
It also said they were living in just one room in their house because they could not afford to heat anywhere else; we can go into converations about where our taxes should go but there is something quite, quite wrong where people are not getting enough support to be able to heat their homes and walk 6 miles every Sunday to get some food.
Damn.0 -

s he was ex forces, there were support networks he could have fallen back on for help, with many serving and ex serving personnel on hand to help out.0 -
I find it sad that they had no friends, family or neighbours to turn to. I would be mortified if I found out someone on my road was in such a state. They are an EYESORES!!!!0

Another odd thing - 59 year old woman, 12 year old daughter? Not impossible, but very unlikely....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

this whole thing is very odd. anyone who commits suicide for this reason is clearly deranged. they must have really loved their daughter!0

I think they were both 48 in the two articles I've read (free Metro). There'll certainly be more than the bare facts as reported. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
When it comes to people with learning difficulties, the vast majority of the population do not want to know and prefer to pretend it does not exist. Most would rather contribute to such things as donkey sanctuaries than somewhere such as Mencap.0

I try to contribute to disliked charities as much as I can. Puppies and cancer get huge sums of money. Mental illness, refugees and homelessness get very little.0 -

maybe there is a reason
most people see charity as a form of self insurance. that is why they give.
if you could guarantee people they would never get cancer, they would probably never give to cancer charities.0
