18185 discount provider blocked by Sky

I have used the 18185 discount calls provider for several years through my Sky talk line. Suddenly on 1/11/11 Sky have blocked me using 18185 through their network without any prior notice. The only response I can get from Sky is that they advise me to upgrade to their unlimited calls package. Does anyone have any info on this please and is there another discount provider I can use through the Sky network other than 18185?
Thanks
Keith

Sounds like your Sky line has been converted to Sky LLU.
As soon as my daughter moved her line rental from BT to Sky, she had to stop using the 18185 prefix and start using their 08081703703 gateway number instead. It's more expensive but can still save you money.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
How much more expensive is it to use the 0808 gateway number than 18185 and where can I find a list of the 0808 rates. The 18185 website only gives one rate for calls (which presumably is the cheaper rate).

Probably the post important difference is 1p/minute for calls to UK 01/02/03 numbers instead of 0p/minute.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. There seems to be some confusion about this...Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -

I agree..why? but if you read elsewhere and even in skys own support forums, some people say its chargeable..Hows that then ?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). The call to the 0808 number is (of course) free but that is just the gateway off Sky's network and onto 18185's network. 18185 then charge for the call to the destination number.
