British Gas offer

Options
Hi
Been offered £120 by British Gas today to go back to them, also promise of another £100 in next twelve months if agree. This was by phone and they were a bit reluctant to give out tarrifs only that it would be fixed till 2014. Anyone else had this ? Thanks

  • Make sure you get it in writing is so easy to not have any prove
  • On their site there are no fixes until 2014, only Price Promise March 2013 (now withdrawn as standard for sale, but might be offered as a temptation to acquire a new customer), and Online Fixed (31-12-12). My question is why fix until 2014, there's more likely to be at least 1 decrease before then, the unit rates on this fixed 2014 deal will be higher than the BG Standard tariff rates, so you're talking about paying more now and for up to 24 months, before an increase, and even then depending on thesize of increase, may not even break even with the cheapest deal. Get annual kwh consumption, if you're adamant you want a fix, go short term, and best there are EDF Fixed for 2012 (til 31-12-12) or Scottish Power Online Fixed Price Energy January 2013 (ends 31-12-12), both of these tariffs will be at least 15-20% cheaper than the fix BG is offering, and remember, it took 2 increase in 12 months for energy costs to go up 18-22% this year, so altho approx 2 1/2-3year fix with BG, in the life of the tariff you would need there to be massive hike to make this plan save you money. Last time there were increase of the sort we have seen in 2011, was 2008, and then there were 2 decreases, in 2009 and 2010, so there was a good 2 years between increases, do you want to over pay for potentially that long a time, I know I'd take a much cheaper, shorter fix, and hedge my bets

    A £220 bribe for a fix to 2014?

Current prices must be too high, and is ready to fall. :j
  • There is a fix until 2014. Price Promise April 2014.

Not saying it's any good mind, but it does exist.

Agree 100%. Energy companies are big businesses they are not Santa Claus or the Fairies at the bottom of the garden, you can bet that whatever the incentive that somebody on a big fat salary has sat at their desk and worked out that the odds of offering the customer something, will be weighted somehow in their favour in the longer term

Anything offered to you by any energy company should be viewed with exactly the same scepticism as an invitation to lunch with Satan
