Credit Card fraud and refund queries

Ok so I'm just looking for some advice on what to do here, so here goes;

In September 2007 I opened up a student bank account, got a student credit card and then thought nothing of it. The first and only time, to my knowledge, that it was used was once on the 15th October.
Now fast forward to today, after several years of calling in and complaining to the Lloyds TSB I have finally managed to receive all of my credit card statements since opening the account, they have never been sent to me before and because I was not notified of any more charges on the account I incurred a large amount of late fees. Finally that has been resolved and the bank refunded all of the late fees and interest fees to the account and an additional £100 for the incovenience.

Now I'm looking over all of the past statements and I see that there have been other purchases on the account that I do not remember making, all in 2007 or early 2008, so my first question is; Is it too late to flag this up as fraud? Secondly over the past several years Lloyds automatically took money from my account to pay off this credit card, now that it has come to light that Lloyds messed up and there should never have been late charges in the first place am I entitled to claim this back?

Any help would be appreciated.

    Can't see Lloyds accepting your fraud claim after all this time. It's your responsibility to check your statements, why have you never chased them for them ? Several years of calling ? You can't have tried very hard.
  • I find it impossible to check my statements when I never received them, I called periodically almost every 6 to 8 weeks to get statements sent out.
    I called each time to request my statements and then told that they can only see the past 6 months and that it would take several months for them to get all the past statements and then send them out to me. Then when I would call back they'd fob me off telling me that it had been sent but because I'd recently changed my address it had got lost in the post, although each time I had changed it it was to a permanent address, each time they assumed that it was only temp due to me being a student.

    It was only after this time that I threatened legal action that they actually got their act together to sort things out. Admittedley I didn't even know what the ombudsman was until a few weeks ago when I left uni and actually got a job.

    Why didn't you spot that this money was being taken from your account and query it ? Or did you not have statements from them either ? Could oyu not check statements online ?

    It sounds like you've been incredibly complacent about your financial affairs in the past, not really managing them at all. Given such a lackadaisical approach I think it's going to be difficult for you to convince a bank that you are 100% confident that it wasn't you that made those transactions 3-4 years ago - it sounds like you yourself aren't really sure.

    Unfortunately, it's been an expensive lesson for you to learn but I don't think there's anything you can expect the card company to do about it now.
