Las Vegas car hire in May.

Got a bit of a problem that I am hoping someone can help me with, well more than one.

The OH and I are getting married in Las Vegas in May this year, thanks to all the excellent advice on here I have booked the wedding, flights, and hotel, and by comparing prices we have saved in excess of £1000, and for that I am more than grateful.

As we are going to be in the USA and Canada for 5 weeks or so, I need a car, so here's problem one, We intend to drive from Vegas to Toronto in Canada and stop off along the way, if we are hiring a car in Vegas and returning it there it's not a problem, but we cant hire a car in Vegas and drop it off in Canada, and as far as I am aware the nearest place for a drop off in the USA is Buffalo New York State, and the cheapest drop off fee I can find is $750USD (about £350 GBP) on top of the car hire of $650 USD

Problem two is then getting from Buffalo to Niagra (Canadian side) in order to hire a car there and continue with the trip in Canada, any suggestions.

I know I have saved a nice little wedge so far through the advice gained on here, but in the true money saving tradition, I dont want to spend an extra £350 if it can be avoided.

So my friends can anyone help a reformed spended to stay a newly qualified tight git, I have been through the old threads but with no luck as yet.

Thanks in advance VW

    eeeekkk.

Las Vegas + Toronto and Niagara were my last 2 destinations seperately.

distance involved here is huge !!!! you can understand the excessive price.

i spoke to a guy from Minnepolis in Vegas and his drive was 39 hours !!! . are you sure about this ??

Yes it's something we've been talking about for a few years, and the main thing is we have a week in Las Vegas (Getting married there) and a week in Toronto (visiting family) but we have nearly 4 weeks to do the drive between the two places, so it will be not be that bad........by the by it's around 2600 miles.....

While I was in Toronto visiting relatives, I took the Greyhound one day to Niagara, and another day direct to Buffalo, and stopped off in Niagara on the way back, as they both have bus stations. It's not very far, and a perfectly reasonable way to get about as far as I'm concerned. You shouldn't have any problem going into Canada from Buffalo, except perhaps a bit of a wait while others are being thoroughly checked out. Making up the time in a bus, weaving accross lanes on the freeway, is an experience not to be missed! They seem to have some sort of exemption from speed limits, or perhaps it's the sheer bulk of the things, but the cars certainly give way.

I have been to Toronto a couple of times now, and the bit that was bothering me was how to get from Buffalo to Toronto, just solved that problem by booking an Amtrack train, about an hours journey and good value at £30 for the two of us, but going into the US from Canada is a nightmare now, with their Homeland Security, still it's and experience.
