Virgin Trains

I have just bought a rail ticket for my dad to travel down to see me. I was going to get him to collect the ticket from the station but saw the '(recommended)' e-ticket and thought that for ease of my dad who doesn't travel on train ever, I'd do that. I then get my confirmation through and it says that because I booked it it must be me travelling?? If i had selected to collect the tickets at the station it wouldn't have mattered who travelled so why does it with e ticket? I find this absolutely ridiculous. I have emailed them to try to rectify this but everywhere I look it says that you cannot. has anyone else had this problem and if so what did Virgin do?
Thanks
Thanks

The T&Cs of etickets are pretty clear before you buy one :http://www.virgintrains.co.uk/tickets-offers/e-tickets/
As well as being the named passenger, the traveller must have the card used to buy the ticket as well.0
