Does anyone know any good hotels/motels on Motorways in France?

Hi, Have never posted before so I hope this is in the right place!

We're off to France this summer and I'm travelling out first with the kids - want to break the journey on the way down. We're travelling on the A13 and A28 motorways towards La Rochelle and ideally I'm trying to find somewhere either on or just off the motorway.

We stayed in a great Novotel just ouside Rouen the last 2 years but its a devil to find and I don't fancy driving round and round on my own!

Would be grateful for any ideas!

  • most of the budget hotels should be quite nr the motorway or just a short drive of it

You can always try the Balladins chain as well the are very good value, and loads of them about close to Motorways......

as long as you pull of the motorway earlish, you should easily find a hotel. We usually head in to the nearest village / town, and look for the centre which always has a 'sports' type bar or tabac with accomodation above. Same price (or cheaper) than the chain places, and in the centre of the town rather than the outskirts...

  • Thankyou for those ideas, I knew someone on here would have some :) - I'll have a look at them tonight - had never heard of Ballardin before!

I'm not sure if Ibis will let you have more than 1 child per room but I may phone/email and check as I don't need any extra beds!

Novotel was lovely and had good family rooms but a bit pricey - nice to find something different if I can.

There are some superb places to stay in the Alastair Sawday book of French accommodation. We have stayed in many and never been disappointed. Many also do evening meals which are invariably superb, and include wine which is no problem as there is no driving to do afterwards!
