PC crashing, restarting constantly

I haven't used my PC in two years. When I turned it back on it was fine, however I've followed the O2 broadband setup CD and downloaded Macafee at the end as suggested (part of the package). Since then the PC crashes constantly, restarting booting up and letting me use it for 30secs then crashes and repeats. Any idea what I can do to resolve this issue or do I need a professional?!?!? Using a laptop at moment.

Perhaps you already had an antivirus solution installed(albeit out of date), plus there is really no need to install the contents of the O2 disc. Uninstall both and report back with the full details of your PC. Brand name, model etc.

Thanks will try, but think it may keep crashing before I get chance! I will also give more details thanks and sorry for the vague first post!

Also, check that there are no obvious hardware issues, by taking of the side of the PC tower(very simple) and inspecting the insides for dust. Remove the RAM modules and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser and then replace them firmly.

Of course unplug everything before you begin, earth yourself by touching a tap or radiator beforehand and be careful not to handle the metal parts of the RAM modules.

Once you have checked all of that, we can concentrate on software. Perhaps a reinstall or just an update of the Operating System.
