House Documents

Hi all

We moved into our new house on 5th December and we have just received a letter from the solicitors saying we need to go and collect the house documents as the bank is refusing to hold them, apprantently there is documents dating back to 1938 when the house was built.

Do we need to keep these?

    Hi Ya

Yes you probably do, were these documents sent via your solicitors? I'm surprised that they haven't given you any instructions! . Many lenders have now moved over to electronic storage and the Land Registry have had a major tidy up of all their documents.

I completed on 8th december and had similar letter. I now have a nice big pile of documents. Only one of interest is the one clearly marking what I own. I shall keep them safe, together with the documents of my last house purchase!

There's electronic copies on file at the Land Registry now which is why everyone has started getting them back where they used to be kept by the bank unless you owned your house outright.

It's nice to keep them as a historical record I think, though I wouldn't fret too much if something happened to them. They aren't as important now.

I've got some to collect from my solicitor too.
