i would say buy a house nearer the airport ,the less your hubby has to outlay everyday on fuel would man you would be able to visit home more often ,his daily commute fuel wise will soon add up.also make sure you check the council tax rate ,sometimes what you pay for a flat in edinburgh is more than you would in stirlingshire ,just my tuppence.
So finally debt free and it feels amazing however continuing here to stay debt free.Next declutter house and body and finally swim under that waterfall x

Yup I agree with this.. I currently commute from Fife to central edinburgh for work, bridge can be good.. but more often than not, i'm counting down the days until I move back across the water!

My OH also works in Dalkeith (and travels from Fife), so our petrol costs are are bit OTT.

My suggestion would be to live either in Edinburgh, or near the airport and as suggested above.. use the fuel savings to commute home for visits.

Just if your looking for flats in Edinburgh, you need to pick the good area's and watch out ESPC's tricks of putting sighthill/westerhailes properties in Costorphine (they're reasonably close area's but Costorphine is the nice bit)
:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!

    Hi!

In the Lanarkshire end of West Lothian (Blackburn, Whitburn, Fauldhouse etc) you get a wee bit more house for your money and are still in easy reach of the M8, train lines to Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as the "back roads" to the M74.

Also close enough to Livingston to enjoy the shops but not the higher house prices!

    Good luck!

You have to come look at houses. There is a lot of variation that doesn't come across in schedules. I live in West Lothian and we're very happy here, after 4 years in central Edinburgh. Good quality of life & lots to do!
