Linlithgow is a lovely place and you can get direct trains to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The town is lovely and the people are super friendly.
The houses are a little expensive but the schools are very good and there is loads for children to doTreat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0 -

Thanks again really appreciate it
Carol
My in-laws stay in Carluke and I really do not like the place (sorry to people on here who do stay there.) Many of the other places mentioned in the posts above are a lot nicer places, in my opinion.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
I am from Falkirk (Larbert) and I would definitely reccommend it. It is right in the middle of Glasgow and Edinburgh and only half an hour on the train to each (slightly less to Edinburgh.)
Polmont, Brightons, Linlithgow, Grangemouth, Larbert all have particularly good links to motorway. From Polmot it's only about a 20 min drive to the airport. Falkirk town centre is pretty decent too and there's plenty to do. Restaurants, shops, huge cinema etc.0 -
hi carol,i have same opinion as bean counter.I lived in Carluke and Lanark for many years and i did not like Carluke at all.If you go to view house you should have a look around the whole town and not just the area the house is in.I found Lanark to be a nice place, good variety of shops and as its a tourist town the council are always going to spend money improving things.Dont mean to offend anyone who lives in Carluke this is just my personal opinion.0

I would say that Hamilton is too far away for an easy commute. I would also think twice about living in a small village as you may just end up a taxi driver for your daughter when she goes to secondary and starts to make friends from other villages. Not a fan of either Carluke or Lanark. The council have now started charging for the public toilets so that won't be helping tourism. I would suggest that you choose near for work as you won't be travelling to see family as often. Don't know the places well but there are a lot of places on the outskirts of Edinburgh in the Bathgate area. Would suggest that you rent for 6 months and get to know the area and find out where you feel at home. Would also let you check out schools and community groups. From a travel point of view think you are better to discount the Edinburgh side of the airport.0

Have a look at Abington, right off the motorway, ans equidistant for Glasgow and Edinburgh. Lovely little school and playgroup.0

Hi Carol
I live in a village in West Lothian (probably the closest to the airport) which would mean a very short commute for your hubby. It's also close to Livingston and has access to trains heading to Edinburgh and Glasgow.
We have 2 local primary schools , a mums and toddlers group and a playgroup for your little ones. (Children have to be bussed to secondary school though).
I like living in a village but having the easy access to more lively places when I want to experience them.
I would take the advice of the person who suggested renting initially. Then you could see what suits you best0 -
Livingston has a great shopping centre.0

Hi, I also live near Lanark and have kids at the lovely newly-rebuilt Lanark Grammar high school there. Can highly recommend Lanark and surrounding area as a good transport base. You have several options to Edinburgh Airport via A706 or A70 and M8, and good links to A74 for your parents. Have a look at villages in the Clyde Valley - esp Crossford on the A72. It's only a couple of miles from Lanark, has a great playgroup and very good primary school. The river Clyde runs through the village and there are nice riverside walks and the area is famous for its garden centres and car boot sales!
There are some nice areas of Carluke.... don't be put off. They also have a brand new Tesco, and the High School / Health Centre / Sports Centre & Library and at least 2 primary schools are all newly rebuilt! The nearest hospital is the fairly newish Wishaw General which took great care of my mum a couple of years ago. Between the two - I still prefer Lanark: older town, more shops and market town feel - houses slightly pricier than Carluke perhaps.
Biggar is also very nice - old market town, touristy, expensive. Handy for M74, but for work you'd need to go in via A702 and negotiate the busy Edinburgh bypass. I'd think twice about here.Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.
