Sky Magic Eye question....

Options
We've recently had Sky installed (just basic, not + or HD) and have an aeriel system in our apartment where by plugging an aeriel cable from the Sky box to the wall in the lounge, it feeds the Sky signal to the other aeriel points in the apartment. My question is, will a magic eye work in this setup? i.e. as the Sky signal had been fed through the apartment to our master bedroom and are getting sky in there, can we add a magic eye and change channels from the bedroom?

Our magic eye sends the tv signal as well,no need for co ax cables at all......
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • The magic eye works using the outer layer of the coax cable as the back channel, if you have coax behind the point then yes, might be a question of buying one too find out for sure.

Since you are saying 'other aerial points' is it going to another room apart from the bedroom? If so it's likely that you have a video amp somewhere as well. If you do, you need to make sure it allows the return signal through for the magic eye.

A video amp such as this one would do

As cobi says, it depends on your distribution method. Normally with multipoint systems such as yours the out of the sky will go to an amp/ splitter that sends the signal to all the other points in the property.

Some of these systems will allow the signal from the eye to travel back to the sky box unaltered enough for it to work. Others either wont allow it to go back at all or corrupt the signal too much for the sky box to recognise.

In my old flat the sky eye worked through the distributor but in the new one it doesnt.

There are alternatives out there that use radio signals to broadcast the info to a receiver in the room with the sky box which removes the distributor issue but can introduce its own problems with interferance

Try it! If you buy a remote extender by mail order, you can return it for a refund in "unused condition" if it doesn't work.

Alternatively, if it doesn't work, you could try replacing the splitter with a compatible type. See:
