AVI to dvd file-problems I've not come accross before-please advise?!!

Hello all,

I've downloaded a very old BBC play (no compression needed) & need to burn it to DVD. It's downloaded in an AVI file. I've tried AVI TO DVD, DIVXX TO DVD, winavi ALL IN ONE converter.

All convert to a file with an audio & a video file. Within the video file are various file type....IFO, BUP, .VOB.

I have IMGBURN, DVD SHRINK as burners/ways to produce an ISO image to burn if need be.

In the past-I've just clicked on the 'video ts' file & either burnt to disc with IMGBURN or converted to .ISO with shrink for burning later. Each time I've tried to burn-either by using file (video) directly OR converting to ISO with shrink I'm getting about 10 minutes only of the play???

Am I being ultra thick here or missing something? Is there any '1-click' freeware that will convert the saved AVI file straight to .ISO?

Any advice would be great!

I'm usually good with this stuff (although by no means an expert!) but can't seem to get it right to burn whole thing to DVD? Any advice please....driving me mad!

    How long is the play?

Could it also be that your blanks are dodgy, drive dying, etc? It tends to show up more when you try to squeeze more onto the disk.

It sounds as though a past conversion of the file may have been made which incorrectly states the size/framerate and other properties, so that imgburn is creating a container which is not large enough.

It may be worth opening it with something like AVIDEMUX (an Open Source program which is quite functional but has what IMO is not a very easy to use user interface) as it will check to see if the properties make sense and can sometimes "repair" them if they don't.

Hey all-ta for the reply. Am i going mad-I'm sure there WAS a reply here reccomending DVDFLICK which I'm downloading now? paddyrg-AVI file is 700mb-so lots of size for disk. Fwor-will attempt to have a look at AVIDEMUX but feel it might be a bit much for my non-technical brian (!). The downloaded AVI plays fine on PC (on VLC player)-only when try to convert with the 3 programmes to DVD files/ISO that it 'fragments' into different bits-so when I try & burn or create ISO it only converts/burns the ONE file I click on.

I need to convert to ONE VIDEO TS file or ONE ISO image.

Do you guys know of any programmes out there that will either A)-change to ONE ISO from AVI or b)burn directly from the AVI file to a blank DVD?

    Nver ever had this before...!

700MB - but *how long*? For instance if the compression tool is not compressing it tight enough, it could be creating an imcomplete file (usually expect to get an hour on a DVD)

The actual size of the AVI file is irrelevant - it is getting transcoded into DVD format. Just putting the AVI on the disc will not work!

DVDFlick, I've used that successfully in the past. Worth every penny.

Hi! 1 hr 20. Paddyrg-not even getting to the compression bit as when converted to DVD files & i try & burn it-I can't seem to select ONE big file to copy?

Any ideas how to convert straight to ISO-can then check its all there by putting it in DVD SHRINK & burn with IMGBURN?
  • if your downloading DVDflick then that will do it all for you and no need to do an iso.

  • Thanks all! DVD FLICK sorted it-just ONE video file & one ISO ( I ticked box for this also so I could preview it on DVD shrink).

Strange that AVI TO DVD/DIVXX TO DVD/winavi ALL IN ONE converter all failed & produced multiple files??!

DVD FLICK was great-did take 3 & a bit hours & slowed computer right down but for anyone struggling to burn AVI to DVD it deffo works!

    Thanks a lot guys!
