Barclaycard Pre-Application Checker

I was looking for some help, I just tried to Barclaycard pre application checker and got the message on screen saying ‘It's mixed news - You're not currently eligible to apply for a Barclaycard but there may be alternative products with other providers’

But the email I received says ‘The results of your pre-application check show it’s likely you’re eligible for a Barclaycard.’

So, the question is, which one do I believe as I do not want to waste a credit check :)

the onscreen one, the email is stupid
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Meaning: there is a possibility - whether slim, substantial or super-substantial is unclear - that you are eligible. There was no guarantee, just a posibility. The email was neither stupid nor misleading, just misunderstood.

    Ah, not quite.

If you fail the pre-app checker store for any cards it recommends an Aqua card / Cap One Classic / Vanquis (one or more depending on your score).

They then email you saying "You might be eligible for the following cards:" but don't list any cards.

If you however had a chance of approval for a card, the email would specify precisely which card(s).

If the application check said "You're not currently eligible to apply for a Barclaycard" it means you will not get a Barclaycard. The email was incorrect and should have said as above. If you do not think the application checker was correct you can always give Barclaycard a call.

  • My mistake. I read the post wrong and thought the email received was 'pre' the pre-application check.

It's really been a long day...
