Another washing machine thread, Indesit/Littlewoods

Bought a washing machine from littlewoods catalogue last year, Delivered on the 6th of Dec.
Been getting offers saying warranty expire 30th Nov and to extend the warranty they want £80 for one extra year.
Seems rather steep.
Our last washing machine an Indesit lasted over 10 years.
On monday the wife put the machine on and did a 50 degree wash instead of the usual 30. Machine stated making a funny noise as it was emptying and during the spin cycle.
Thought it may have been something inside, Button or bobble etc.
So put some towels in on a 90 degree wash. At 1st you could hear a faint click but them it went quiet. All seemed fine.
Is it worth reporting yet? They may come and say there is nothing wrong though.
Will it put any future dispute in my favour by reporting a fault. Or do we buy something better. Quality obviously not what it used to be.

If the machine is faulty, and you report it now, that will qualify the fault as having occurred within the warranty period and they will be obligated to repair or replace it, even if they fail to do so before the 30th.
I think, though, that as you have 21 days left in the warranty period, I would run a few more loads of wash and keep an ear out for funny noises. It could just be that the sound of the 50 degrees wash was unfamiliar, or you could be right about something being stuck. Check your manual for how to clear all the various bits, and clean them. Then you'll know, one way or the other.0 -

Littlewoods advised to contact the manufacturer, Gave me an 0844 number. ( I think not, SayNoTo0870, Landline number thank you..)
Phoned them up and they answered quite quickly, Took some details and then tried to sell me extra insurance and something that
made the machine safe to use. Seems since they have gone cold feed only, Nasty bacteria are hiding in there and waiting to kill me.
Also seems the machine wont last as long either.
Maybe i exaggerated about killing me but the sales patter went along those lines.
Then they go along the if the engineer thinks the machine has been abused or a fault thats down to the
user then they will charge £100+ for the callout.
I asked what could have happened for the machine to make a clicking noise. Seems things can get past the
seals and into the machine.
If thats the case its my fault and they can charge £100+
So with no user serviceable parts how can a user check to see if there is something they can do to prevent these
things happening?
If items can pass a seal and enter the machine then surely the seal is faulty. Because it did not seal.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
the machines performance is directly related to what and how you put items in the machine. A common fault, which isnt covered under warranty for example is a punctured seal which has been split by bra underwire. The seal was sealing when it was punchered by a third party item.
This is not unusual practise for any washing machine manufacturer - I would be getting a torch, open the door and get your head inside and check the drum and seals for any puncture marks or holes in the drum which shouldnt be there.
That would cover you for the majority of the self inflicted damage they could revert the cost of the visit for.0 -
I presume the only seal is the rubber one on the front?
Thats in perfect condition.
