eBay Sellers Rights

As part of the ebay dispute process the buyer is required to return the item via tracked method before a refund is issued. Although doesn't protect the seller from receiving an empty box if the buyer wants to go that far.0

I would question whether his "broadcast engineer" / "independent engineer" is actually qualified to open us a blu ray player. Pretty much everything electronic has no user servicible parts inside these days. Anyone can call themselves engineers - one "Computer Engineer" I know totally annhialated my friends computer when attempting to upgrage the ram and processor.
It just sounds fishy - most people upon receiving faulty goods would not rip the thing apart to see what the problem is. If the power supply PCB is indeed broken, then this could have been damaged in transit to you, or indeed transit to them - the 3 year delay is a problem here.0 -
So he emailed you on Day 1 pointing out an issue and you ignored him? Day 2 he emails again and again you ignore him? Day 3 you finally answer his 3rd email?
You knew there was a problem but chose to ignore him for 3 days, probably infuriating him further. Whilst the whole thing sounds rather suspect ignoring him has probably just made him infinitely more determined I imagine.0 -

Ignoring him and not checking your emails every day are not the same thing. Day 1 and day 3 email could be only 48 hours apart. If OP logged off for the evening just before the email was sent, and then didnt check his emails the next day then it is entirely possible that 3 emails could be sent.0 -

If thats the case then fair enough, but the OP reads to me as though he read each message on the day they arrived.0
