Royal Mail charge - is this correct?

Ok this is more a matter of principal than any major rip off or anything (and hopefully I have posted in the correct board).

Can somebody please tell me if I post something using a pre-paid 1st class envelope and ask to send it recorded delivery, should I pay the full postage costs or should I only pay the difference between what it costs to send recorded and the 1st class charge?

Interested to know what the answer is as I assumed it would be the latter, but when posting something today I got charged the full cost.

I've done this a few times and have only ever been charged the extra for the recorded delivery.

you should only pay the RD costs. the postage will be raised at the delivery office to account

Thank you both of you for your replies. Custardy, this is pretty much as I thought it would be. Naughty naughty of them to be charging twice then. It was only about £1.10 that I have been over charged, but it is the principal. I shall watch out for this in the future.
