Sky connections question

Hi
I've just moved into a new house, with a sky dish attached!
Never had sky before but got hold of a sky digibox to try out the free-to-air and make sure the cabling was sound.
I have two cables into the living room, one with no connector on the end and one with a tv/rf type connector. There is also another sky cable coming into a bedroom with a tv/rf connector fitted.
The sky box I have needs a F connector to take the dish feed.
Can anyone explain what I have and how I can connect a cable (and which one!) to my digibox.
Any advice to a sky noobie is much appreciated.
Cheers
Scott

two cables for one room sounds like the previous people had sky+ you only need one cable for the digibox just fix it on tune your tv in to the channel for sky or use a scart cable simpler and see what you can pick up does the digibox have a card in it, the one I have up stairs has to have a card in to get all the free channels. if not you might only get afew choice free channels like sky news which is channel 501.
also can you see how many cables come from the dish and track the cables into the house. two for one room means they've had sky+ but you can still plug your box in with just one wire
Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

Leads from Sky dishes should be fitted with an F connector, so Id guess that some heavy handed removal guys took the push on connector with the box. Id guess that the coax lead is from the terrestial ariel, and the other gopes to the dish. Id go and have a look at the dish, and see how many coax cables come out of it, it'll either be one or two. Id also plug the RF plug into the TV and see what happens."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0

Check the colour and size of the cable or cables from the dish and from any aerial that might be fitted, follow the runs outside and see where they enter the house and you should be able to work out what is what.
Sky cables are often black and a bit thinner than TV aerial coax which is often brown but don’t rely on that as many colour and size options exist.0 -
Thanks for the advice, guys.
Managed to connect the bare cable into the box's F connector and get a signal so I know that's the dish input (I'll pick up an F conn. tomorrow).
Interestingly both cables with the RF plugs fitted are male plugs. I don't think they are from the tv aerial as that feeds connections on a wall plate which is in place and working. I'll look outside at the cables coming from the dish tomorrow and report back!
Many thanks

You're probably looking for 3 cables coming from the LNB on the dish. As mentioned above, 2 in the lounge for the previous owners Sky+ and the 1 in the bedroom as a Multiroom or Freesat connection.Dave. :wave:0

Thanks Phantom!
Still a bit confused why 2 of the cables have male RF plugs fitted though!?!

My apologies, didn't really read your first post right.
Probably just be a single SKY lead then.
The RF cable could well have been plugged into the 2nd output on the back of the digibox to provide viewing upstairs in the bedroom.Dave. :wave:0
