child broke leg at school....

Just remember not to complain when they can't afford textbooks or they cancel extracurricular activities due to health and safety concerns.0

How well do you get on with the school usually?
I would ask for a chat with the head (least they can do) and gauge how things are being dealt with.
I would also chat with your child's orthopaedic surgeon or physio and ask about expected recovery, future concerns etc.
those two conversations should help you to decide.0 -
Do you actually know that the state of the steps caused the accident, or could it have been possible (for instance) that your child fell over her feet/shoelace etc etc.
I would accept that accidents happen, and that the school was/is in the process of fixing the steps which may/may not have caused the accident.0 -
yes I have seen the steps today, I didn't look earlier as I first thought it was a simple accident.
the repairs were not being done at the time but have started since the accident.
I wasn't thinking so much to sue but deffinatly to put in a complaint. it would be for my own benefit but more for her. where the repair has been done it looks like the edge of the step crumbled under her foot whilst going down.0 -
Do you know what? I would ask for some sort of compensation, they have insurance for these kinds of things. Reason why I say this is because when I was in school I fell down some steps and broke my arm, 20 odd years later I am still suffering with it. My Mother broke her ankle tripping over a pot hole on a path, she suffers terribly with it now. Wish I sued the council... My mother did, she received a fair amount of money, not that it has made a difference to the pain she suffers, but made her feel as of justice has been done, they also fixed all pot holes...
Who pays for the insurance premiums, that increase when a claim is made?
So the money made no difference to your mother's situation, but 'justice has been done'. What a ridiculous notion of justice!0 -

Complain and ask for reassurance that the work will be complete. To be sure, double check the work is complete. Sorted.
Hope your daughter feels better soon.0 -
The key is communication. Speak to the head. Maybe they were unaware of the steps, and following the accident they have had them repaired?
I'm not a fan of these accident claim companies, or suing the school. Unless it was pure negligence?0 -
I meant not to sue! shes a teenager and didnt trip over laces, she was with friends and neither could understand how it happened (as accidents do) until a friend told her she had seen them fixing it so I went to look to see why it needed fixed.0
