Carpet stain remover recommendations?

Hi folks
Can anyone suggest - FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE (sorry to shout but I notice people simply don't take things in unless you do this) - a stain remover for carpets which really does what it claims?
I don't want to have to work my way expensively through the possibilities from my local hardware store and am looking for a word from the wise.
No folk remedies, thanks, just something proprietary.

I use 1001 in my old vax machine (you know the ancient orange 2 in 1s) and it brings up my cream lounge carpet. I don't have hall, so straight from the street into the room, plus a mechanic hubby, dog, a toddler, cats etc it gets quite a beating! Sometimes I have to go over a particularly stubborn area a few times, such as the coffee no one bothered blotting up, the giant toddler poop lol, but it always comes up.
Hope that helpsToodles-SAHM to a beautiful 3 year old DD, Baby #2 on the way!Just started comping 02/11/11 Everything crossed!0 -
Depends on the stain I suppose
I get the yellow dog sick stain out of the cream bedroom carpet with the Vanish spray can for carpets whatever its called0 -
vanish and soapy water for me. Boiling water on a ribena stain more recently!0

Stardrops, every time, never fails. Removed felt blue felt tip pen from cream carpet that I've been trying to get out for 5 (five) years with some VERY:eek: expensive other cleaners. Re-discovered it a few weeks ago & LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! 90p for a 750ml bottle of concentrated Stardrops in Wilk*o. Usually on bottom shelf with other cheaper brands, all the expensive stuff at eye level & above. Follow the instructions on the bottle it's FANTASTIC. Did I mention I LOVE STARDROPS!!!:j:j:j0

Try the stardrops and the Vanish can. use both in a small area first - or a bit thats going to be covered by a rug or piece of furniture. I find both work just as well as each other although tbh I prefer the vanish for a stain as you just spray on and work it in with your fingers and then leave to dry and hoover off. Stardrops I use for bigger carpet cleans0

I used to always swear by Vanish but it didn't get the felt pen out
. I've used stardrops on very small areas (i.e. blob of felt pen) & on larger areas of mysteriously stained areas "dunno, mite be hot chocolate, or tea, or coffee..." with equal success but as Suki says try in a hidden area to test for colour fastness etc. Good, clear directions on stardrops bottle. 0 -
Like other people I find Vanish is great!I Believe in saving money!!!:T
