Just wondered whether people have been down this route.
I am currently unemployed and disabled, not an easy combination to overcome. So in order to improve my chances of employment I have been looking at doing a degree through the Open University.
Does anyone know what help, particularly financial, is available for a would be mature student with a visual impairment.

You may get help with your fees like any other student. This will depend on your circumstances and income.

The way student finance works with the OU is changing from September 2012 for new students. For details see:

You will also be entitled to help via the Disabled Students Allowance which can provide equipment such as speech software and pay for extra costs you may have due to your disability.

The rules regarding financial support are different in Scotland, here you can still get your fees paid for a 10 point course. there are a lot of disabled students with the OU and theu will do everything they can to help overcome any problems.0

Just want to say the OU are amazing!
I took my degree with them some years ago.
My advisor was just fantastic. He worked with me to ensure that I could access every aspect of my course. ...I even had a personal chauffeur to drive me around campus for my Residential Week!....and all my exams were sat at home woith extra time to complete the exam and rest periods too.
I would not have been able to complete my degree without the OU.0
