Hi
can someone help as im getting very confused i have recenly switched to sky but found my phone bills higher than when i was with bt!!...mainly due to calling mobiles, which cant be helped as kids have mobiles and some of my family only have mobile numbers, is there a cheaper way to call these, have been looking at some of these companies where you dial numbers first but i think sky charges for 084 numbers at a higher rate too, how does it all work, can someone reccomend one, i dont want to get stung with a huge bill and need to cut costs a bit!
thanks in advance x

Has you asked the question before you changed to Sky for your calls, I'd have advised "DON'T" but, as that moment has passed, the MSE UK CallChecker shows you exactly what it'll cost (it even shows Sky's 10.11p* connection fee).

* Should be 12½p (see post #6).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Unless you have the correct tariff bundle, calling mobiles will always be expensive. The secret it to get a mobile of your own - the choice of network should be that of the network you call most, as many will offer free or discounted same network calls. You can turn it off when you;ve made the call, as those with mobiles can call you for the same amount (unless they, too want to call you for free).0

Alternatively, as you are at home when you ring, you can use Skype to call a mobile - not free, but a lot cheaper than landline.
You can Skype from a smartphone with an App via your router, you don't have to switch your computer on.0 -
Call mobile to mobile using your inclusive minutes (if on a contract phone). No free lunch, and no free laptop

depends on how much you are spending on your bills for calling mobile numbers? and how many minutes you actually use? otherwise may be cheaper to get one of those sim only sim card (if you have a mobile phone lying around)? cost around £10 and get something like 300 minutes?0
