Problems with Barclays Verified by Visa System

Has anyone else experienced problems with the new Verified by Visa system now used by Barclays? Instead of asking for digits from a password, it either lets you straight through or asks you to answer 3 security questions, with answers to be selected from drop down boxes.

The only problem is I cannot open the drop down boxes! I was told by Barclays to install the latest version of Flash but this has not helped. 3 days after the start of the problem I can use my debit card for small amounts but not larger amounts. Barclays staff seem to have no clue what to advise me.

  • Whilst being unable to offer any help, I do empathize with you! I made several attempts yesterday to make an online payment to my local council.

    On each occasion the (council) site simply returned the cryptic message "error 0100" when attempting to load the verified by visa iframe.

    You were, at least, getting further than I. Albeit, unable to complete the transaction!

    I also attempted to login to the verified by visa website, that is still asking for three random characters from the password - however login failed with an 'unknown password' error message.

    Possibly a total red herring, but if the mouse won't open the dropdowns try the up/down arrows. This works on the Ocado website - where there is a message saying the problem is due to a recent Microsoft update affecting those still using Internet Explorer v7.

  • Just to say, I can open drop down boxes on all other websites, it just seems to be in this instance that I can't !
  • I've been having some problems too, first of all if it wasn't on a website I trusted the verified by visa iframe looks like a kid's phishing attempt.
    Anyway, just in case I called barclays customer help and they gave me the link to the verified by visa on their website (vvv.barclays.co.uk/verifiedbyvisa - can't post link yet so vvv is www)... Went there and tried to register my company credit card and it says "The information you have entered does not match our records"... what? i called the support number (which btw even if it has a bad name online seems legit since the barclays customer help gave me the same number) and they know nothing about how to solve it... what the...?
    I mean, before doing something like this at least make sure it works and it looks legit -.-

    I just made a payment to my credit card and the verified by visa screen flashed up and then it went straight through. Now I thought it did this last month but I wasn't sure.

    Do I need to re-register?

    No. There appear to have been changes in the entire system .... that haven't been well signalled. Initially I thought it was just Halifax - but it's clearly the whole underlying scheme :-

  • I received an email from a Mastercard based credit card provider several months ago which said much the same thing as users are experiencing on this thread - that only certain transactions will be subject to the 3dsecure password screen (3D secure is the mastercard equivalent of VbV)

    For all our Credit and Debit cards - we have received no direct information whatsoever. And - having experienced the 'processing' several times - I had to search hard on the Halifax site for anything.
    If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
