The only reason I get a rise is because I'm self-employed. Even last year though, in spite of increased turnover, it worked out that I ended up with a small pay cut - and that was before factoring in inflation. The main reason for that though was because I paid out for new equipment that will help me work faster and more easily. That is now paid for so I should see a reasonable increase this year - though most of that will be due to doing more work.

Most people in the company I work for have not had a pay rise for at least 5 years and don't expect to get one any time soon. That's probably why there is very little support for the public sector whingeing at the moment.
