Now its not all the time, it like comes and goes every minute or so but its like a dull thud somewhere inside a wall or something.
I have bled all my rads and top up the water in em but past that im lost.
any help please.
I hope its nothing serious!

Sounds like it could be boiler kettling, have a look here:-

What type of boiler is it, how old etc?I love my spell checker, it stops me making all sorts of stupid smelling mistakes. :doh:0 -
It's likely water hammer. If you have TRVs try turning them slightly when it occurs. You will soon find the TRV responsible.0

i had this problem for ages before british gas finally solved it, in the end it was the pump at the diverter valve which was faulty, has been replaced for 2 months now and no noise since :j0

It could be air in the system have you tried bleeding the radiators ? are any of them warm at the bottom and cold at the top if so they need bleeding. If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

I have bled all the rads so its not that.
What the heck is a TRV???
Is a pump cheap to replace?0 -
It could be pipe noise.
The copper pipes expand and contract depending on the temperature of the water.
If the pipes run through a wooden joist or through a wall etc, and they have not been properly protected with a piece of material or similar, they may be “sticking” from friction and suddenly releasing, causing this noise.
Our system does that and it is very annoying as it is amplified through the pipe work and radiators.
Unfortunately you have to track down the site of the noise and remedy it, and there could be more than one place affected.
I could cheerfully strangle the plumber who fitted our c/h.
No offence to other plumbers. Most of you are competent professionals.0 -
mine is just the same - noisy on heating up and cooling down.
if it would not mean having to redecorate the whole house again, we would take up laminate flooring, carpets and floorboards and replace the whole lot.Karma is a wonderful thing.0 -
As you can see from the responses it could be a number of things. Some things to check to narrow it down;
Is this a new problem ?
Does it occur all the time or just on heating and cooling ?
Does it only happen while water is circulating i.e. while the pump is running ?
Note TRV = thermostatic radiator valve.
Sometimes these stick or are fitted on the wrong end of a rad and can cause the problems you mention0 -
