Shower Temperature

We've just had a Mira Excel EV Shower installed and the pressure etc is great, but on max setting I find the water a little too cold.
That's not to say that the water is not hot, as it is, but I like to have the water a little bit hotter.
Is there a way to adjust the settings on the shower? As it's a thermostatic shower, I'm guessing that turning up the boiler water temp wont help.

Have you used the Maximum Temperature Stop override? It's probably just set with the temp stop too low.
The User Manual tells you how to set the override to get higher temperatures, but obviously warn any other users that they can no longer whack it onto highest temp and jump in!0 -
With mine-I need to take off the face plate on the valve and turn it up, as fwor says it will tell you how in the manual. We found at one stage (old boiler, new thermostatic shower, very cold mains water) that the boiler flow rate wasn't good enough, so we had to turn on cold water tap elsewhere in order to slow the hot water flow in the shower enough for the shower to be hot. Is fine now with our mammoth vaillant combi0

Ask your installer or alternatively you could RTFM.As it's a thermostatic shower, I'm guessing that turning up the boiler water temp wont help.

Yup. I had the same problem and that solved it.0 -

Hi, yeah I've had it to the max temp (red button pressed down). I was expecting it to be hot enough to poach a chicken in, but I've had warmer air biscuits.hotcookie101 wrote: »With mine-I need to take off the face plate on the valve and turn it up, as fwor says it will tell you how in the manual. Ahhh great sounds like a job and a half then... do you have the EV version?Ask your installer or alternatively you could RTFM.
Alright cheeky chap, I was having a bout of lethargy
To be fair, you could probably post that response to many of the questions on this forum; most answers can be found in the manual or on the interweb :beer:
You'd be right.
I usually am, especially after beer:money:
Cheers
thanks for all your help0 -
Normally the temperature when the dial hits the red stop button is set to approx 38 degree centigrade. This is usually set up by the installer as part of the installation, on continental showers the temperature is actually printed on the dial at 38 as this is a European legal requirement.
Then as you go beyond that point you can then boil the flesh off your back as desired!!
Quite easy to do but will require removing the control knob to adjust.:)0 -
We have a mira shower and we replaced it when the heater went. The newer mira showers don't go nearly hot enough and the nice mira shower man replaced the heating bits of our old one. He said that the new thermostatic showers often get complaints from ladies as apparently we like hotter showers. Yes it was me who had complained to them that the new shower didn't work properly.
It might be worth phoning their help line as I have always found them to be really helpful.0 -

Thanks... hopefully it all wont fall to bits on me:eek:We have a mira shower and we replaced it when the heater went. Thanks, I will give them a ring if I have any problems.
I must be in the minority, as I'm a dude and like hot showers/baths - just gotta be careful that I don't burn the twinkie :T
Ironically, my misses hates hot showers... hmm should I not tell her that I've adjusted it?Our Grohe shower's maximum temperature can be adjusted (simply remove the temperature adjustment knob by levering off the badge and undo a screw, use the knob to set a new temperature using thermometer to measure the water temperature and put adjustment knob back on again). Recommended temperature in the manual for ours is 43C.
Ours was playing up last week...too cold as there was dirt lodged in the non-return valve on the hot side - took off the valve, cleaned up well, recalibrated temperature and its good to go now at 43.2C maximum (CBA to get to 43.0C!). Trouble with these thermostatic valves is there's so many bit in them that can catch dirt or filters that need to be cleaned!
Thanks, very informative. I don't doubt that this is a stupid question, but is there a specific sort of thermometer I should use?
5 points to the first person who thinks it's clever to write, " The type that reads temperature"...:p0 -
I use a digital thermometer with a detachable probe (was £20 at maplin a while ago - we use it for all sorts - primarily bought by Mrs B as a meat probe..used to test baby bath water regularly now) and hold it under the water outlet (shower hose/head removed- you might want to change your trousers after so you don't look like you've had an accident!). Any thermometer really will do but one that reacts quickly to temperature is best (especially if you have a limited hot water supply - ours ran out so then i had to wait 30 minutes or so for the hot water cylinder to reach temperature!).
I'll just go commando... best prey I don't burn the crown jewels
Thanks for that... I'll pop out and see if I can get an instant read thermometer0
