Spar shops are handy if you've got one round the corner from where you live. They're never going to compete with the big supermarkets on most prices because they are a buying cooperative of small businessmen and women but, as McKneff has found out, they will sell certain items at attractive prices.

Yeah sure Morrisons may be cheaper for milk but you might have to shell out a couple of quid for petrol or bus fares to get there and back.
