Basic switching question - switch date

I am on scottish hydro 'go direct' tariff and got a letter saying they are changing me to a standard tariff from 31st Dec. My question is how can I change to a new tariff/supplier on that date? Can this be done? If not, would a normal switch result in a random date and a few days worth of standard price energy being due?
Thanks if anyone can help.

No, you cannot specify a set date. The norm is 4 to 5 weeks for a switch, so you may be on Standard for a few days.
It's more important to avoid switching before 31/12 if your tariff has an ETC.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Appreciate the reply thanks. I will just do the switch first or second week of Dec I guess.
