It's against most banks T&Cs and they don't like it generally because they prefer businesses to use chargeable business accounts. But what can the OP's husband do?
You might get away with it easier by opening a Barclays account for the business the day after going BR.
Maye other self employed members who have gone BR can comment on how they managed? When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Regarding income and IPA, it depends what that income is made up of. Only specific benefits are excluded, although all are included when working out surplus. It basically includes Government benefits and where the Government has stated a person needs xx to live on then the OR (as a quasi Government department) is unable to disagree with that by saying there's surplus for an IPA!
Dojo - Sorry, didn't read it that you were saying 'not to', just pointing out it isn't only Co-Op who wouldn't like it if they spotted the non personal use. Hopefully as I said someone will help out by posting experience of going BR and continuing a self employed business. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN
