Tevion dvd recorder - unknown disc

I have the Tevion dvd recorder model: TDRDVD4000 from aldi. I just put in 2 discs someone recorded for me in Divx and my dvd player displays "unknown disc". She has recorded things for me before and they have played no problem and 1 of the 3 discs she gave me does play.
Can any suggest why this might be?

It could be a bad burn on the DVD that gave me a few problems and it was down to burn speed, so maybe ask your mate to lower the burn speed or take off region coding.0
