kidz5aday Is this a scam?

  • A few weeks later I noticed my Visa card had been charged £29.99 by Kidz5aday. I emailed and explained that I had not liked the product and hadn't reordered he said that it was on the website that reordering was automatic if you did not contact them to cancel. I did not see this on the website and there was no mention of it in the packaging with the powder.

Apologies re my earlier post - there do indeed appear to be at least 2 different versions of the order form:

It appears that you used this one (£4.95 charge)
    http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/781/kidz5adayv2.jpg
which does indeed make no mention of the automatic ongoing charges.

The one I saw yesterday was this one: (£1.95 charge)
    http://img33.imageshack.us/img33/5812/kidz5adayv1.jpg
which does clearly mention the automatic ongoing charges.

Both versions do mention the charge on the page prior to the order pages above, but only below the fold (ie: you have to scroll down the whole page to see it and it is not obvious that you have to do this). The huge 'add to cart' button is above the fold and therefore it would be easy to click that without scrolling down and miss the information about further charges.

So you may want to contact your card issuer and dispute the charge (show them the screenshot link above) and also say that the company agreed to refund you but has not done so. Worth a try anyway.

Seeing as the whole "5-a day" thing is a scam to begin with, how on earth could this not be?

I'm interested - how are guidelines to eat more fruit and veg a scam? Are the greengrocers of the world all in it together?

It absolutely started off like that, a marketing campaign by food producers and the number 5 a day was plucked out of thin air (Or 7 day, or 9 a day etc etc depending on what country you are in).

I personally wouldn't say it's a scam as such there's no doubt westerners eat too much crap, but lifesytyle, and eating a balanced diet on the whole is much more important.

Because "5 a day" is utterly inadequate, ill-thought out and badly explained tokenisim.

Compare our "5 a day" with no clear advice on fruit/veg groups, no fruit/veg/nuts balance and even utter confusion over what actually is fruit and veg in the first place plus certain items excluded for purely political reasons and no justified indicators on portion size with even the US, whose advice at least has some scientific backup, where they suggest - 8-13 portions chosen from at least five different groups with clear suggestions on portion size.

Other countries with established records for public health excellence go even higher - up to eighteen diverse portions per day!
  • Thanks competitionscafe I have contacted the credit card company and they are sending out a form, hopefully with the screenshots and his email confirming a refund and no further charges which can be attached I will get a refund, or at least ensure that no further charges will be made. for all the help, still feeling a bit of an idiot.

  • DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! First of all, after reading all the above comments I can see that I was a sucker to buy the product in the first place - whilst it is a perfectly pleasant chocolately drink when mixed with milk, it is unlikely that the health benefits are as amazing as "claimed" - but to top it off, my latest tub did not arrive and I have contacted them TWICE by telephone and once via email to ask about it and have been ignored on every occasion. When I phone they give me some reason why someone will call me back "the lines are very busy, we are only taking messages at the moment" (yeah right! so what's why they answer in 2 rings!!!) or that the lines are closed and they are only taking messages. Again - ridiculous!!! The are only answering the phone to take orders from other mugs, more like!!!! I don't know if it was intentional that they haven't sent me my third tub, but at best their level of customer service is very bad, and at worst, they are literally scamming me out of my money. Do not buy anything from these people!!!!! I have cancelled my on-going order through paypal and will pursue this further if they do not refund my money.
  • I sent my pack of Kidz5 a day back for refund on June 6, well within the time limit, having tried it twice and found it not to my taste. I felt it was a waste of money as the powder simply did not dissolve in the cold milk, and it certainly didn't make me feel less hungry. However, I have heard nothing further from 'Neil', despite several emails plus a scan of the proof of posting receipt. £30 is just too much to pay for this kind of rubbish, so be warned! Have just sent a further email threatening the County Court if I don't hear anything, so it will be interesting to see if this elicits a response.

There's been an asa ruling about them, in 2012, they were told not to claim or imply the product was equivalent to fresh fruit and veg and not to claim its organic- but they haven't complied.

This product it claims a child's 5 aday, then also links itself to the latest fad diet- the intermittant fasting diet. Dangerous and vile advertising , in my opinion, and only a matter of time before we read some anorexic parent has been feeding their kids this instead of real food, or teen a norexics are living off it in the belief it's healthy.

Could I ask you, why you thought it would make you feel less hungry? Is this implied anywhere ?On their site they say you should send it back special delivery( the most expensive method!), they will just claim they didn't receive it, however you could claim back some of the money from the Royal Mail.
