The CC company would not hold you friend to account because they can't get funds from the retailer, it will have something to do with the details of the claim.

    Thanks for another useful reply...appreciated:):):)

I know what you're saying, but it appears, from their letter that this is exactly what they have done. They have specifically stated, in writing that they have re-charged the account because they cannot recoup the money from the merchant. As far as we are aware, the credit card company has never written to the merchant or the manufacturer or spoke with either in any way, shape or form. They appear to have made an arbitrary judgement.

Please don't take this the wrong way...it's just an observation I've made regarding your replies...but I am grateful for your comments (as is my friend, she says "thank you").

    OP, just read this.

If you want advice you need to take a different approach.
You have not answered YB's question. I would have given up on you by now, maybe so has he!
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

    I have answered his question...post #18.
Read my question again...it asked WHY haven't they been able to recover the money?I know...I read it...but there's still an omission, ie WHY?

No mention of why in their letter.

Some people have given me good advice on this thread and I appreciate it and have left thanks accordingly.

I have just pointed out that some are not reading posts thoroughly. This is undeniable and you have not read my replies properly either as post #18 clearly gives an answer to YB's question:)

I'm sorry you seem to take exception to this and it is not meant to upset you or anyone else, it merely is an observation. I think you are getting too worked up about this...so just chill. Perhaps a good approach is to read things thoroughly so that OP's don't have to keep repeating things they've already stated? I'm sure you'll agree this is the way forward and will take my advice as I have taken yours...with good intentions.

Anyway, this has been sorted out now. The credit card company have suspended the re-charge following yet another phone call where my friend actually got to speak to someone who had the authority to do it based on the information they have received so far.

Thanks to everyone who posted here...really useful and helpful information that did indeed help.

    Many thanks:T:T:T
