Hi, i recently purchased a laptop and a pop up has appeared telling me that I have nearly reached the end of my trial security with norton and I have 6 more days left. It directs me to a site that I can subscribe to in order to continue my securtiy protection. Im not sure if I should do this or not and any advice would be most grateful. The laptop is used by my daughter for browsing, facebook and listening to music. Many thanks

Make sure you UNINSTALL it before you put any other ant-virus program on.0

Its user choice really perfectly adequate for your laptop is the Norton .
Other choices are available from free upwards .
Many recommend one of the free AV suites .
I only use Eset Nod 32 or Kaspersky as a matter of preference .

If you want to keep Norton don't buy it from them, look for an high street offer or and OEM version. You won't need to uninstall it just enter the product key.0

If the just the AV program is installed, then maybe change it for a free one. If it is the Norton Internet Security Suite (NIS), then you could consider keeping it. I chose it after trying out a few security suites back in 2009 and have been using it ever since (now NIS 2012). No plans to change.
If it is this software and you decide to keep it, shop around for the best price. There is no need to uninstall the trial software. Just buy a disk and put the put key number that comes with it into the existing installation.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0 -
At the end of the day the choice is yours, NIS is not the beast it used to be, it's much lighter and lots of useful facilities too and reasonably user friendly. Avast is OK also but a bit slow on my netbook at start up , Avira on another netbook (mrs DCM's) also OK. I would not personally use AVG but that's my choice / preference. If you are happy with Norton then look to Amazon/Tesco/other re-sellers never buy it from Symantec I got 3 PC version from Tesco or Amazon for £24ish , and just put in the license key to your expiring version, plus you can also get the 2012 upgrade for free after that.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . I really wouldn't pay for antivirus software.
Avast is free, easy to use and isn't 'hassle-ware'.
Download the installation files for Avast (get it direct rrom them)
Turn off your router
Uninstall Norton, restart your PC.
Install avast.
Turn on your router.
Just set avast onto 'silent/gaming' mode to get rid of the pop ups and annoying voice, and register it with an email address to get free, effective anti virus software.0 -
