Egg\Barclay Card to Virgin Balance Transfer Woes

Hi,

As anyone tried to transfer a balance from their new BarclayCard egg replacement card?

I've tried today and the virgin site does not recognise the Barclays credit card numbers! I've spoken to Virgin and they say they are working on a fix but can't give any timescales, which seems crazy to me!

they've suggested putting the transfer through against the old Egg card number but as far as i was aware this account ceased to function as of today?

Has anyone else had this issue or even managed to get round it?

I have a promotional 0% rate on my virgin card which ends on the 30th of November so the pressure is on!

I tried to do a balance transfer from my Natwest card (on which I have a 0% promotion code), But my new barclaycard world mastercard (egg money replacement) number wasn't recognised online.

This has happened to me before and I always got around it by telephoning to do the balance transfer. I have not tried this yet though.

I just tried it but NatWest can't process payments to the card!
  • Hi David,

I've tried over the phone and they came back with the same error! It wouldn't be so bad if they could give some idea of timescales..it looks like i am stuck until Virgin update their systems!

The lady I spoke to on the telephone didn't offer any help. She just kept saying we can't transfer to that account since its not recognised.

You would think they should be able to set up the payment given the sort code/account number and card number as a reference.

I assume you could do the BT to the old Egg card number since there is a period when that number is linked to the barclaycard one?
  • You would certainly think so, its so frustrating that Virgin don't appear to want to do anything about it....at the end of the day they will be making some money out of it do to the transfer fee

I think my next move will be to try and use the Egg number, if that fails i can't really see what the other options are as regards Virgin...

    i'll keep you updated!
  • I've chased this again with Virgin and they have come back saying they can't give any indication of when a 'fix' will be in place. They have stated that the only way around it would be to use a virgin money transfer into my bank account. There would be a 4% handling fee for this, but I I do have an offer of 0% until October 2012 in terms of the interest

It's frustrating as they don't seem to be in any urgency to rectify the issue with their systems but I guess it's the way I'll end up having to go

Well, 4% for the year is better than the 15% odd you'd pay otherwise :o

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just tried to do a balance transfer online and over the phone from Barclaycard World MasterCard (old egg) to Tesco and the number was not recognised.

Tesco asked me to contact Barclaycard who are looking into t, but would have thought it was Tescos systems that need updating - can anyone confirm?

Also anyone worked out a way to solve this ?

    Thanks, DJ
