Sorry if this is not on the right board.
We inherited one of the above electric fires when we moved into this house last winter.
Here it is: http://www.fireworld.co.uk/electric-fires/dimplex-charlotte-opti-myst-electric-fire?ref=base
I just can't get on with it at all. I find it difficult to open to fill with water and worry about spreading germs around in the steam. I am told that lots of people like them and I am wondering if it is just me that can't seem to take to it. It was quite expensive and we can't afford to replace it for ages.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with it, just that I can't get along with it, finding it a bit troublesome but was wondering if anyone here has one and if they have any tips on how to get the best out of it.

If the 'mist' effect optional, why not just run it as a conventional unit?0

I don't think it is optional as you get a beep when it runs out of water and there is no light behind the logs. I tend not to use it for heat (two levels of air heating) but just to make the room look cosy.
