Cheers Robin. I think next time I'm in Belfast I'll drive around and find a proper space and not take a risk. The document isn't idiot proofed for me but I think double yellows are a no-no as I've never noticed any 'seasonal restrictions'. Maybe someone that knows May Street better could clarify if it's ok to park there on double yellows or if the drivers were taking a chance with red coats not working.
As others have said you can't park on double yellow lines anywhere at any time, unless you have a disabled badge. Single yellow lines all have signs beside them detailing when you can and cant park like these

I know this doesn't help the OP but I didn't think red coats worked Sundays. With this is mind can anyone confirm what parking restrictions are in place on Sundays and/or Bank Holidays? I was in Belfast City Centre recently and saw cars parked on double yellow and other white lines. I gave up trying to find a space and ended up parking on a single yellow and wasn't sure if I'd 'get done'. There were loads of places I could have parked if there were no restrictions but then why were so many using the car parks if parking is so relaxed? Can anyone clarify for me please?
I've seen redcoats giving tickets to cars parked at bus stops in Castle Place and Royal Ave on Sundays (and rightly so).NO MORE HANDWASH GLITCHES PLEASE:D

Eek! I'd never park on double yellows, disabled spaces or bus stops but the fact you've seen redcoats surprises me as the number of cars parked on double yellows, white hashed boxes and just generally everywhere they shouldn't be led me (wrongly) to believe that parking was a free for all on Sundays.
Boy am I glad I was on a single yellow. I did look for any signs but couldn't spot any. It's rare I ever need to go into Belfast let alone when restrictions are lighter so thank you all for the advice - it may be cheaper to just park in Victoria Square and not get fined.0 -
This reminds me of a joke:
A traffic warden who was a keen church-goer and awarded the George Cross for bravery when he rescued a motorist from a burning car died and went to the gates of Heaven.
He met St Peter at the gates who asked the traffic warden his name and then checked a list on a clipboard in his hand. After finding the traffic wardens name, St Peter gave him a piece of paper. While walking away, traffic warden read the piece of paper and was shocked to see that written on it was the word “Hell”. The traffic warden ran back to Saint Peter and asked him why was “Hell” written on the piece of paper. St Peter said that that is where the traffic warden was going to spend eternity.
The traffic warden protested recounting all the good deeds he had done and pleaded with St Peter to check the list again there must be some mistake. St Peter said that he would check the list. After spending some minutes looking at the list, St Peter exclaimed "sorry made a mistake; you are actually down for Heaven". The traffic warden sighed a huge sigh of relief, but before he had time to think of all those lovely BMW's and four-by-four drivers he could book in Heaven, St Peter said: "Sorry the ticket is written, there is nothing I can do"
I know the old ones are the best.0 -
I'm fairly sure that the Red Coats would mark such a ticket on their handhelds as VDA - Vehicle Driven Away.
In the absence of their standard evidence i.e. digital photo of your car with the ticket on it, I'd be very surprised if you got any reminder. :j0
