Emails not arriving !

Last week I got a new laptop (at home) and ever since, the number of emails arriving in Outlook Express has been much smaller than previously (used to get between 30=40 a day; now it's less than 10). I've a btinternet.com email address.

My husband says it can't be anything to do with the new laptop and it's just a coincidence. Is it ??

Does anyone know what might be going on and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks.

Check on btinternet webmail to see if you really are losing some messages.
If you are, then look at any rules or junk mail filtering - could be that's where the messages are going.
Must be a not so new laptop if it has Outlook Express on it, running XP maybe?

Checked the webmail and messages were all there ! but it was impossible to transfer them to my laptop. However, hubby has managed to fix it (I hope) - something to do with POP3 - and it now seems to be downloading new messages.

    Fingers crossed ...

(Yes, sorry, you were right; it's actually Windows 7 and runs Outlook 2010)
  • NOT FIXED ...:( Hubby given up.

    What's going on is ...

Emails are not arriving in Outlook when I switch laptop on, open Outlook and press SEND/RECEIVE.

But, when I check on the btinternet site, they ARE in the inbox.

To get them into my Outlook inbox, I've found that by forwarding just one of the emails to myself that that triggers all the others arriving in Outlook too.

The emails that have just been transferred to Outlook were sent yesterday and this morning, when the laptop was switched off (maybe that holds a clue?)

    Can anyone help ???

Have you (or hubby) verified that you have the recommended POP3 settings within Outlook for receiving mail?
    There's a guide here: http://bt.custhelp.com/app/hub/c/346#h=ImNhdD0zNDZfNDEyXzQxNHxjb2w9MyI.

A quick Google brings up this page on how to set-up Outlook 2010.

Copy and paste whatever error message you are getting when you hit 'Send Receive' in Outlook.
Have you verified that the POP3 mail server settings are correct?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Very useful link - thanks. I worked through the instructions and changed a few settings on my laptop, and now it seems fine.

    Fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help (and everyone-else who replied too).
