Can they make me use their suppliers to replace my diamond ring?

Hi

this is just a quick question to see what other people's experiences are.

I lost my diamond engagement ring which was bought from a top jewellers in USA.

The insurance have been dealing with it since early November but tell me there will be a further delay in settlement because of the weather... ok

They then said they will refer it to their suppliers to replace the ring. Can they do this, who are the suppliers? I assumed I would be paid for my loss to enable me to replace my item in my own time and from a jewellers of my choice.

Can I appeal and ask for a financial sttlement not a relacement. If not say I am not happy with the supplier, my ring was a big purchase and of high quality.

Any ideas or similar experiences.

They are entitled to choose how the claim is settled

The majority of insurers however will offer a cash settlement but this will be less than the claimed amount as they are effectively doing it as a gesture of goodwill. There are lots of economic reasons why an insurer wants to push people through their approved suppliers/ discourage cash settlements
