Hi All,
I bought a new Acer Aspire 5051AWXMi a couple of weeks back, but it's since become evident that it's in need of some extra ram.
I don't know anything about laptops (this is my first) so can someone suggest what ram I should get and how much?
It's got 512 at present and normally in a desktop I'd just double up to a gig, but I think that's just my oldskool thought processes - will it be ok to put a new gig chip in along with the 512?
Ebuyer have a bundle with this, so I presume that's suitable, but wanna be sure.
Cheers

My new work Acer arrived today. Imagine the shock when I went to stop the stupid music on the screensaver, and saw my face whizzing around the screen!
(Mutters something about people should tell you these things have webcams on them
) My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Excellent company
It's worth pointing out that although the tool at Crucial.com for scanning your system is very useful their prices are not the best. Shop around. In fact - if you can find a discount code for PCworld it's well worth looking at their website or pop in of course. I got 512mb for 30 quid just after Xmas.

spookmeister,Yes and ebay sellers sell memory as well. But if its only a few £s in it i would go for crucial .I ordered some a few years ago,and i think i got it the next day,and if you have any problems ,they are really helpful.0

The issue with the laptop is that it also shares the memory with graphics card so reduced even further than the 512MB available. I added a 512MB DDR2 DIMM to make up the 1GB and it made a massive difference, would of like to go to 2GB but couldn't justify the expense. Using them in matched pairs is recommended but not a necessity. As my works Laptop has a 1GB & a 512MB DDR2 DIMM.Cheers
