Repairing misted double glazing

Hi - I've got a couple of double glazed windows which have become misted and I want to get them sorted but I'm not too sure who to ring to get them fixed and have no idea about the potential costs.
I met a bloke today who's agreed to come and paint the windows outside for me and he said that he could take the windows out and replace them if they were to be fixed as he's a joiner...... anybody know where I should go and what sort of company to ask and perhaps an idea about the costs (the windows in question are about 60cm x 60 cm). Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers - La x

I'm fairly sure you can replace just the sealed unit i.e the 2 bits of glass... the reason they mist is because the seal has gone a moisture is getting in between the 2 bits of glass... the replacement may depend on the type of frames though.
Have a look in the yellow pages, quite a few of the smaller double glazing firms do repairs aswell as supply new.0 -

i work at pilkingtons in brum , sounds like your unit has broken down ( misted up ) , its better to replace the unit , as repairing the unit is a nasty job means removing the butalye sealant then prying the glass apart ,if the glass aint toughened glass its hard to do , most likely end up breaking the panes of glass , if you pop down to any pilks branch , i'm sure they will help you out ,

the companys good like that ... :cool:0 -
the easy answer is replace the glass unit. dead easy its in uPVC window frames. just pop off the beading and the glass unit drops out! Put a new one in and put the beading back on (this is the difficult part as it is a very tight fit and you need strong thumbs!!)
You need to get your local manufacturer to make a new unit the same size. There are plenty of discount double glazing manufacturers around.0 -
If the windows are old they could be externally glazed on security tape and not a straight forward job .0

Most double glazing is covered with a ten year guarentee, worth checking out.0
