KLM and the ever-increasing tax charges?!

Trying to book a flight from London to Amsterdam. When I did a quote online (direct with klm.com) just after lunch the ticket price was £34.00 each and the total including taxes etc. was £174.00. I then checked some other airlines and comparison sites, came back a couple of hours later and it had risen to £179.00 - I just put this down to an increasing ticket price. I went to book it but using Firefox on OS X it didn't like it, so I booted up my PC to do it using IE7.
What do I find but the total is now £189.00, despite the ticket price itself remaining at £34.00. I phoned KLM and the rep, whilst friendly, couldn't explain it away other than the fact that the UK had tax increases coming (yes, on the 1st Feb I told him, but surely they had already been accounted for, or would have been added in one lump). He still could not explain it and was unwilling to budge on the price.
I even thought that the site may be logging my IP address and increasing the cost each time I got a quote so asked somebody else to look and they too got a total of £189.00.
Something strange is going on - now I don't know whether to just book it in case it goes up again or wait to see what happens in the next day or two.
