Flixster. It finds your local cinema, tells you whats on and best of all you can watch trailers of all the current films.
    Born to shop;)
  • I've been hoarding these for a while, so here goes with the ones that I've not seen mentioned above (a lot came from a Sunday Times a while back that listed 100 or so good apps, not all free) - I've tried only to list free ones in rough categories and added an explanation for some if it's not obvious:

Time Out - City Guides: these cost but often you can find free ones from time to time; it's worth checking

Viber - free calls and texts to other viber users over wi-fi, plus IM
0800 Wizard - convert 0800 numbers to local

Scramble CE - addictive word search game
    WordCollapse
    777 poker

Layer - bit clunky, for finding things nearby, and seeing virtual reality layers on phones, a bit like a phone GIS application
SitOrSquat - finds nearby public toilets!
    Google Earth
rama - city tours: last time I looked mostly US

    we7 - like Spotify
iScrob - use to play music so it scrobbles to Last fm and records what you play
Last.fm - links to your last fm account
    SoundHound - alternative to Shazam
SoundCloud - upload recordings to a profile online
Songify - turn recordings into silly songs

    BBC News
    AP Mobile
    AJE Live
    FL Football
Football SC - Sky football news
    The Onion

Gorrillacam - good free camera app
Muybridgizer - convert images to art
    PS Express - photoshop basics

    Dictionary - free, with thesaurus
    Met Office
    EA Flood Alert
Skeptical Science - climate change info
    Thomson local

    Dragon dictation
Bump - for sharing photos etc between iphones next to each other
Onavo - tool for compressing data to save on usage, particularly abroad
Converter - free converter for wieghts, lengths etc

    Betfair

Tripadvisor - good for travel ratings
    Skyscanner - flight prices
    Kayak
    Booking.com
    ThomasCook - exchange rates
Google translate - very useful for text/spoken translation
word lens - translates pictures, only spanish when i last looked

Emoji free - adds icons etc to text messages

SkyGo - if you've got sky, you can view channels on the phone
    xfm
    stitcher - radio stations
    youtube

    Highways agency - traffic
    AA - ditto
    RAC - ditto
    autotrader

vouchercloud - this is a good one for finding vouchers when you're out that you can use in shops
    myvouchercodes - ditto
pic2shop - scan barcodes in shops and compare prices online
    kelkoo - comparison
    pricerunner
    nectar
    ebay
which rights - useful consumer rights reference
    groupon
    tesco clubcard
    ocado
    tesco groceries

    iTheatre - theatre info
    urbanspoon - restaurants
national trust - maps to locations
forestxplorer - info about trees and whatnot I think (there's so much I've downloaded that I don't use much...!)
    leafsnap

    UMMS medical info
    WebMD
    BackCare
    NHS DrinksTracker
Wiser - this one's very useful for chemical info, if you want that
    Micromedex drugs

songkick - good for finding gigs nearby
gigzoo - ditto, not so good in my experience
    seatwave - for buying tickets

sikipedia - sick jokes (not for the easily offended)

    UKcinematimes
    Flixster - ditto
    Cineworld
    IMDb - movie information
    Filmtrailer - free trailers
B-Movies - free B movies, some are ok!

Poetry foundation - free poem search app
    Shakespeare - complete works free
Edgar Allan Poe - ditto - app with complete works
Vincent van gogh - ditto - think from rijksmuseum

And that's about it. If any don't work ask and I can check the names as I might have used abbreviated versions in some of the above.

Anyone else think MSE needs an app?

Do you think if we campaign to Martin Lewis he'd build one? (or get a techie to!)

    Ideas for his app:
Listings of all his common use phrases (eg SAD FART and etc)
Listings of all the useful places to go for help in your area (eg CAB, Local Police, Trading Standards..etc)
Links to Quidco/TCB and anywhere else
Useful rights to remember if you are unsure of your rights, (eg online trading rules, rights on faulty goods...etc)
Debt advice including a "how to get out of debt" option or tracker to keep tabs on what you spend and your bills and pay day so you can help yourself stay in the black/get out of the red!

And of course a link to the MSE boards :)

Anyone with a hotline to Martin that can suggest this to him??
