Property in Croatia

Anyone know any god deals in Croatia? I am looking at the Dalmatian Coast i.e Split, Trogir etc.

Is that the same Croatia that was in a Civil War from 1991-5? According to this there are still major issues surrounding ownership rights relating to that period.

If you want a holiday home, Southwold is nice. I have a fair idea what the laws are surrounding property rights there too. And the tax laws. And the likelihood of foreign owned property being expropriated by the state at some point in the future.

This is all a little sarcastic (and maybe out of order) but it seems that a lot of newspapers and websites are encouraging people to buy property in places where there are substantial risks without understanding what they are doing in the hope of getting rich quick.

Unless of course you are a Croatian property magnate looking for a few tips in which case I apologise profusely.

If I was buying in that area, I'd take a look at Montenegro - Croatian house prices have mirrored our (increases) in the past few years. Buying in Montenegro is easier and they have the Euro as their currency!

    GingeG.

I am very familiar with the places you mention in Hrvatska. I have been a regular visitor there since 1971.

Why buy? Property is very over valued but non-Croats are overwhelmed by the beauty of the country which may be the explanation.

Land ownership, as mentioned in a link above, can be a serious problem when `owners` return from elsewhere. A similar problem exists in Cyprus.

Enjoy Croatia its a fascinating country but have you considered renting rather than buying?
